In Leyton, old fashion makes a new comeback!
On the 1st of September, local resident Elisabeth Lennard opened her first permanent vintage clothing store called “Ella Pop Shop” in 210 Francis Road in Leyton.
Ella Pop Shop sells handmade vintage clothes that can be dated back as early as 1940’s. There is a range of clothes from different eras, you name it and they’ll probably have it! There are original, exquisite and very fashionable items that have peaked many local resident’s interests. Her clothes are most certainly made out of the highest quality materials. You can be assured that Elisabeth works hard to ensure that the condition of the garments is of the highest standard.
For over 20 years, Elisabeth has always had a passion for collecting vintage clothes and has been building up her collection. According to Elisabeth’s family, she was would always draw sketches of dresses when she was a child and had an interest in fashion from an early age. Before she moved to London, she had worked with a Parisian designer and gained an even stronger interest in vintage clothing.
“I never really studied fashion but it has been a hobby of mine since childhood,” Elisabeth Lennard said.
Before setting up her new permanent shop on Francis Road, she had her store in outdoor markets and fairs. She sold vintage clothes in outdoor fairs for 5 years and then sold them in the Wood Street Indoor Market for 2 years.
When asked why she decided to join the vintage clothing industry, I was told that it was because she had a massive collection of vintage clothes and decided to start selling them as they were very popular with her customers. According to Elisabeth, many of her customers are generally local residents but she often gets many vintage clothing lovers who travel all the way over to Leyton to buy her vintage clothes. Many of her customers say that “her prices are fair and very reasonable”.
