Sutton has the highest Attainment 8 score average per pupil in London for 2018, it has been revealed.

Provisional results at the end of Key Stage 4 published by the Government shows the borough marginally pips Kingston to the top spot, at 58, by only four-tenths.

They are two of only four south London boroughs in the top 10, with the others being Richmond (51.6) and Wandsworth (50.7).

Croydon has the fourth-lowest Attainment 8 score per pupil, at 45.7, followed by Lewisham, Lambeth, and Greenwich.

The statistics released by the Government’s Department for Education also show that Sutton is only second to the Isles of Scilly with the highest average Attainment 8 score per pupil in England.

What is Attainment 8?

Attainment 8 is the calculation of English, mathematics, three English Baccalaureate qualifications – such as science, computer science, history, geography, and languages – alongside three other additionally approved qualifications.

These are all then added up and divided by 10, providing an average score.

A school’s average Attainment 8 score is the average of their pupils’ scores, and it’s used by the DfE as one of several factors to assess schools across the country.

For 2018, the average for state-funded schools in England is 46.4, and for all schools overall it’s 44.3, according to the DfE.
