A recently approved music venue just yards from The 02 has applied to host more than double the amount of events first proposed.

Developer Knight Dragon was given permission to build a two-storey venue for gigs, conferences and other events on the Greenwich Peninsula in July.

Knight Dragon, which is also behind major regeneration plans for the Peninsula, said the 4,000 capacity venue could be open for up to 10 years.

Councillors approved the proposals which set out a calendar of 83 events a year, but the developer wants to more than double that.

If agreed, the smaller of Greenwich’s riverside venues could host up to 200 events a year.

These could be exhibitions, award ceremonies, gigs or corporate parties, according to the application.

Council officers have recommended the increase to be approved by councillors next week.

In a report they said: “On balance it is considered the minor material amendment to vary the permitted number of events per year to a maximum of 200 days per calendar year for all event types is acceptable and will not result in unacceptable noise and transport impacts.”

The application will be debated at a meeting on Wednesday, October 24.

The venue’s auditorium will have 1,400 seats, and room for 3,000 people standing. The 02 Arena next door, which opened in 2007, has a capacity of 20,000.
