A church in Abbey Wood is celebrating a £50,000 funding boost for improvements to the church hall.

The hall at St Michael and All Angels Church dates back to 1904, but now it is looking a little shabby and the roof has hit its expiration date.

The funding is from SUEZ Communities Trust and will ensure that the interior can be redecorated, including refurbishments of the toilets.

Councillor John Davey, deputy mayor of Bexley, has attended many events in the church and hall, and is delighted the project is going ahead, “to ensure these well used and vital community services are preserved for many years to come.”

Anne Stubbington, of Abbey Wood Women`s Institute and the Cray District Women`s Institute Choir, is “thrilled so many and varied community groups will continue to be able to use this treasure for generations to come.”

The parochial church council also needs to carry out quinquennial and stoneworks repairs on the main church building so are looking separately to this funding to raise over £250,000 in grants and fundraising.
