Nearly 300 people have backed a campaign to get floodlights at Charlton skate park.

A petition calling for lighting has had 295 names added to it in just a week of being live.

According to the Greenwich Skatepark Co-Operative, which started the petition to the council leader, the facility will soon be unusable.

The petition explains: “When the clocks go back later in October, an almost £400k council facility will not be used during the week for almost six months of the year.

“There is floodlighting in place for the footballers near the space, however we, and the Friends of Charlton Park Group, want the space to be used more inclusively in the evenings, by all park users, be it dog walkers, joggers, gym users, and skate park users.

“Currently the limited lighting means that many park users do not feel comfortable using the space after dark.”

The petition can be seen here.

The clocks go back on October 29, and park users claim this will mean that less people will be skating.

The £380,000 skate park opened in October last year, and was funded by cash from planning permissions.
