A bar in Erith has applied to reopen until 5am, to the annoyance of its care home neighbours.

The White Hart, in Erith High Street has applied to Bexley Council to open from 10am until 5am despite two petitions with nearly 80 signatures against the plans.

More than 20 objections have been made, including one neighbour who said they were left “emotionally exhausted” a few months ago after a party at the club allegedly raved on until 4am.

The police also have concerns the long opening hours will create public disorder.

The venue, which was formerly Potion bevore reverting back to The White Hart, has a chequered history with drugs and fighting- and faced losing its license in 2011.

The new licence holders now say they would make sure the outside area was empty by 11pm, and there would be signs telling punters to respect neighbours.

According to council documents, neighbours living in nearby Stone Court accommodation are furious at the proposals.

A letter sent to the council explains: “The extension of the licence would undoubtedly cause a public nuisance, depriving residents of the peace and quiet that they are entitled to.

“Especially the residents of Stone Court, many of who are frail and elderly and deserve to live in peace and comfort.”

The Met Police have also objected to the club’s plans, writing to the council: “We have serious concerns regarding the potential changes applied for and the adverse effect they would have.

“The premises is located in Erith town centre, a location that experiences high levels of violent crime, drug use  and anti-social behaviour.

“Police object to this application and consider that if granted, the premises would give rise to a negative impact on crime and anti-social behaviour.”

The restaurant and bar has also applied to remove an old condition preventing children from entering the establishment after 9pm.

The licensee has also asked for booze to be sold and live music to be played up until 4.30am, and to include the basement under the new licence so music can be played there too.

The licence will be considered at a meeting on October 17.
