Back in 1978 a group of businessmen from a complete spectrum of the community including a G.P, dentist, retailing, engineering, employment agency, and local government, came together with the desire to serve the community. The result of this was that the Rotary Club of Twickenham Upon Thames held its Charter meeting on the 7 October 1978 with 24 founding members.

A milestone date of 40 years of active involvement in helping the community was reached this year and a Charter Celebration Dinner to mark this was held at The Lensbury in Teddington which 94 people attended, included District Governor David Easton and Len Smith – past RIBI President.

Only one of the founders still an active member of the Club and to mark this achievement Rotarian and Founder Jim Stevens was recognised by the presentation of an engraved tankard by Club President Ian Cave. Two former members and founders, Chris Ferguson and Ross Wood were also welcome guests.

The club remains very active and currently has 38 members. New members are always welcome. The club meets each Tuesday evening at the Strawberry Hill Golf Club. For more information visit www.tutrotary.org or contact Rotarian Margaret Gilroy-Smith on 020 8894 4044.
