A Greenwich father is calling for more CCTV after his daughter was "dragged to the ground and kicked" in a random attack on her way to school.

The 15-year-old left Randall Place at 7.30am last Thursday (September 27).

When she turned onto Roan Street she noticed two men on a moped, who stopped close to her.

One of the men, thought to be in his late 30s, got off and asked the teenager for the time.

The young girl kept on walking and when she didn't answer, the man grabbed her from behind and threw her to the floor.

He then went on to attack the young girl, repeatedly kicking her while she was on the ground screaming for help.

The attacker then got back on the moped and the two men rode off.

Nothing was stolen and the girl raced back home to tell her father what had happened.

The father, who asked not to be named, told News Shopper: "I don't want this to happen again to someone else, but the police are dropping the case because there was no CCTV or evidence.

"My daughter is struggling to talk about the incident at the moment and I just want to highlight how traumatising this was."

The father now wants more CCTV in the area as he believes something like this will happen again.

He said: "Unfortunately, there is no CCTV in Randall Place or Roan Street even though there is a primary school in Randall Place.

"The assault has left my daughter in a state of fear as she was pulled to the ground and kicked repeatedly while screaming for help.

"No witnesses have come forward and while the police are trying to gather as much information as possible, I was told that the case would be closed unless there is evidence to link this assault to these men.

"So many young people walk to school using Roan Street and other streets within the vicinity and as a parent, I am deeply concerned about the lack of safety and security in this area."

Cllr Jackie Smith, Greenwich Council's cabinet member for community safety, said: “Our sympathies are with the victim of this incident. The Royal Borough of Greenwich takes the safety of our residents very seriously and we always consider introducing CCTV where there are high levels of crime and anti-social behaviour.

“We always assist the police with their investigations and footage from our network of CCTV cameras is used to provide evidence on a regular basis. Unlike some other authorities, our CCTV cameras are monitored 24/7.

“We are currently looking into the possibility of purchasing a 4G mobile CCTV camera which we will deploy for short periods of time in different areas around the borough where criminal activity and anti-social behaviour is taking place.”

The police have been contacted for comment.
