QPR keeper Joe Lumley hopes to be pushing for a starting spot next season after signing a new three-year contract.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has signed a deal until 2021 and hopes to challenge team-mate Matt Ingram for the number one jersey following the departure of Alex Smithies to Cardiff City.

Lumley, who joined the club aged 16, expressed his delight at extending his contract at the club he adores most.

“Since I joined, I’ve always wanted to play for the first team ,so I’d do anything for that. Now that the new contract’s all sorted, I can push ahead,” said Lumley.

“I’ve been here since I was 16, so I’m delighted to sign for another three years.

Harlow-born Lumley saw action out on loan last season at League One club Blackpool before returning to W12 to start the final two games of the Championship season.

After impressing on loan at several lower league clubs in recent years, including the likes of Bristol Rovers, Lumley believes he has improved considerably since he joined the club from Tottenham in 2010.

He said: “My game’s improved massively since I’ve been here and I’ve learnt so much.”

“I’ve taken a lot from the goalkeeper coaches that I’ve had here and now with [goalkeeper coach] Gavin Ward, I’m learning more every day, so hopefully, it can only get better.”
