Residents at a care home in Wandsworth enjoyed an evening of cocktails, cabaret and entertainment to celebrate a groundbreaking initiative.

Nightingale House, on Nightingale Lane, hosted the night to mark the opening of Apples and Honey Nightingale nursery, the first children's nursery located at a care home in the UK.

Jacqui Beyer, activities team leader at Nightingale House, said: “I’m still on a high from the evening. It was such an amazing event, with a special atmosphere as residents thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, drinks and the wonderful company of all involved. We laughed, talked and danced; no-one would think this is what one would get up to in a care home!"

Entertainment included play readings, songs and music, with actors Laurel Lefkow and Simon Schatzberger, musician Matthew Lucas and singer Larissa Murray performed. Cocktails were provided by Create Cocktails, with professional bar-tenders creating bespoke cocktails.

One resident said that ‘she felt as if she was on a cruise’. The event, held last month, was part of a programme of activities run at Nightingale House, a Jewish residential home.
