The van did not stop at the scene, but a 34-year-old man later handed himself in at a south London police station, a police spokesman said.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and for failing to stop at the scene.

Mr Clarke has yet to be formally identified, but his next of kin has been informed.
