A HOSPITAL team has been recognised as leading the country in the health care it provides.
The rheumatology team at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone received two awards by the National Institute for Health Research for its hard work giving patients access to clinical trials.
More than 400 patients over the last five years have had access to medication to relieve inflammation and reduce pain.
Consultant Hasan Tahir was picked out for his contribution in leading the trials since a research network formed in the hospital 10 years ago.
Dr Tahir said: "Our work means that our patients are often among the first in the country to be treated using the latest medications.
"I find that many people like to support the development of therapies that will help future generations, and I'm very grateful to them.
“We are excited about continuing to contribute to the global development of new therapies in rheumatology."
The British Society for Rheumatology also recognised the team, which has a combined experience of more than a 100 years, with a Best Practice 2016 award.
