A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old near Lewisham High Street.

Rukevwe Tadafe, 21, who was known as Ruke or Peanut, was stabbed in Moleworth Street at around 8.40pm on Saturday, April 30.

The young man, who is thought to be from Deptford, was taken to a south London hospital where he died at 8.25am on Thursday (May 5) as a result of his injuries.

His alleged attacker was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of murder, and taken to a north London police station.

He was bailed yesterday to return to the same police station at a date in early August – pending further enquiries.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday gave Mr Tafade’s cause of death as stab wounds to the chest.

Next of kin have been informed, although formal identification is yet to take place.

Mr Tafade is the second person knifed to death in the Lewisham borough this year, after 17-year-old Myron Yarde was fatally stabbed in New Cross on April, 3.

The murder investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command.
