The feathered pair were taken up in the balloon before dropping from the sky

The two bird brothers from Eagle Heights hoped to smash the Guinness World speed record as they plummeted 2,000 ft from a hot air balloon.

TOP STORIES: It was not their day as trainer Jonathan Ames, 29, recorded speeds approximately 100 mph short of the current record.

Mr Ames said: "They didn’t break the world record but it was amazing to watch."

"We have put so much effort into this we will definitely be going for the record next year."

The pigeon-fed falcons ripped through the skies at a respectable 150mph and 109mph but neither Dick or Dom were able to approach the speeds they needed to become title holders.

Spectators gathered to see the brother falcons fall from the sky

Now the duo will now be heading to the alps where they will practice free falling off a 3000 foot cliff face in preparation for their next attempt.

Nicky Hopkins, 27, who is an administrator at the centre said: "For a first attempt we were amazed.

"The heat and noise from the balloon was immense and both Dick and Dom were absolutely brilliant dealing with it."

Peregrine falcons are reportedly the fastest animals on the planet when in free fall, reaching recorded speeds of over 240mph.
