"Don't do it fam" - that is the message from police to potential moped thieves on a poster which has caused some amusement.

This Is Local London:

The poster endorsed by the Metropolitan Police and Wandsworth Council imagines the "diary of a ped thief" and the street slang he would use.

The "aspiring future millionaire" and A-level student joins a friend to smoke a joint before stealing a moped and picking up his girlfriend.

He drives the wrong way up the street and crashes, leaving himself in a coma.

He wakes up five months later to discover his girlfriend was killed as a result of the accident.

Just before Christmas he returns home to discover his family has been evicted from their council home because of him.

Police arrive and arrest him on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a licence and insurance and theft of a motor vehicle.

A photo of the poster was put on Twitter by the Furzedown Network community group on Sunday after they spotted it in Tooting.

Richard Lartey retweeted the photo, dubbing it "the greatest poster" the council has ever printed.

Moped theft is a common offence in the borough.

Just last night, officers in Tooting arrested two men on suspicion of trying to steal a moped.

In the week from September 2 to September 8, five people appeared in Wimbledon Magistrates' Court accused of offences relating to stolen vehicles or attempting to steal vehicles in Wandsworth.

Two of those offences involved teenagers accused of attempting to steal mopeds - one in Scott Avenue in Putney and another in Garratt Lane, Tooting.
