Police in Waltham Forest have released CCTV footage of the moment a thief snatches a smartphone without realising a camera was pointing directly at him.
The man pictured is wanted in connection with theft at Hertz car rental company at Prestige House in Clifford Road, Walthamstow, on July 3 at around 12.45pm.
He is seen picking up the iPhone 5S, worth £300, from the arm of a chair before placing it back down as a member of staff talks to him.
He then picks it back up and pretends to be on the stolen phone as he hurriedly walks out of the building.
The CCTV has been released to the Guardian by the Metropolitan Police as part of a joint venture to identify perpetrators of unsolved crimes.
Anyone who recognises him is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 4913394/15.
