Rita Chadha is the chief executive of the Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London (RAMFEL).
Based at the Cardinal Heenan Centre in High Road, Ilford, the charity offers advice services that are accessed by up to 200 people every week and campaigns against discrimination towards ethnic minorities.
Ms Chadha is speaking out about the migrant crisis in Europe, particularly in Calais.
She said the UK has a "duty to help" those in desperate need and criticised the government for creating a "hostile environment" towards the migrants.
