There has been an outpouring of tributes for the teenager on twitter, including from rapper Novelist.

Deborah Kew, who lives across the road from Spalding House, was outside her home when the police arrived yesterday evening.

The 50-year-old told News Shopper: "I came out as the vans pulled up, all dressed in riot gears.

"They were gone within about 20 minutes. Then the landlady told me the bad news this morning, shocking.

"My thoughts go to the family."

This Is Local London:

Resident Deborah Kew was shocked and saddened by last night's stabbing.

Ms Kew, who's lived in the Turnham Road for the past year, said it was completely quiet before the police arrived.

She added: "That's two lives ruined - why do they carry knives?

"I'm very shocked and saddened because it's a nice area and the police will probably heighten patrols, it's very sad."

A 41-year-old man who lives nearby and asked not to be named said he thought the two 17-years-olds are sixth form pupils at a West Dulwich school.

He told News Shopper: "Last time we heard about this kind of thing was ages ago.

"Of course it's scary, I've got a son his age.”

He said residents in the block of flats next door which is cordoned off are generally quiet, but the basketball courts and parks nearby do sometimes attract trouble.

He added: "We do try to fight the crime around here.

"We have been asking the council to put CCTV around here. Obviously we didn't expect something like this."

The man, who has lived in the neighbouring block of houses for six months, added: "Hopefully Lewisham Council will consider it [CCTV].

"It would be a good deterrent, it wouldn't stop it but it might minimise it."

More tributes to the teen have been posted online.
