Poorly youngsters at Epsom Hospital can now enjoy being transported to the seaside in a newly refurbished £20,000 playroom.

Momentum, a Kingston-based charity, transformed the room in the Casey ward into a brightly-coloured space with uplifting seaside images of beach huts and deckchairs and a daisy meadow.

St Faith’s Trust, in Dorking, set up in the 1930s to help children in Surrey, donated £20,000 to Momentum for the project.

Jo Dodge, Epsom Hospital’s play specialist, said: "I have had such positive feedback from staff and families.

"It is so bright and inviting and will be a relaxing space for our families to enjoy at what can be a very stressful time."

Momentum focuses on enhancing environments in hospitals where children are undergoing treatment for cancer and life-limiting conditions.

Bianca Effemey, the charity’s director, said: "Studies have shown that a good hospital environment will assist children’s recovery time.

"This is such a beautiful playroom that it delights the children, hospital staff and parents alike."
