Hundreds of children from deprived backgrounds spent a day at the seaside as Britain endured its hottest day in a decade.
A convoy of 100 balloon decorated licensed black taxis assembled at Sainsbury's in Walthamstow Avenue, Chingford, yesterday (July 1) to take the 300 children to Southend-on-Sea for a fun-filled day.
The event is held annually by the London Taxidrivers' Fund for Underprivileged Children, which is the 2015 local charity for the Low Hall superstore.
Taxis were decorated and children were kept entertained by a host of characters, clowns and balloonists before they set off for the seafront.
Arriving at Southend around midday, the children enjoyed a refreshing lunch before spending the afternoon at Adventure Island and then the Cliffs Pavilion for a disco.
