Hackney-born Jay Ajayi could be set for a return to London after being drafted to play in next season's NFL by the Wembley-bound American football team the Miami Dolphins.

The 21-year-old running back was selected by the Florida franchise who will play the New York Jets at Wembley on October 4 as part of the next NFL International Series.

Speaking about the possibility of returning to the city of his birth, Ajayi said: "If I get to play at Wembley in the future, I know it will be really special for me and my family.

"Being from London, that home-town kid, that would be very special.

"It would be a surreal experience if that ends up happening this year."

Ajayi, who was born in Hackney and lived in Essex before moving to the States at the age of seven, watched the draft along with his family from his home in Texas.

Also back at Wembley next season will be the Jacksonville Jaguars, who continued their ongoing links with London by allowing a British fan here to announce their final two draft picks - the first ever to be announced outside the United States.

The Jags are midway through a four-year commitment to play a home game every season at Wembley and gave 25-year-old competition winner George Bedford the honour of revealing two players sellected by the franchise.

Mr Bedford said: "I was astonished to hear I had been picked. It's great that they're continuing to involve their UK fans - I'm just the really lucky one."
