Plans have been submitted to transform the Big Fat Panda restaurant into a bar and neighbours in Clapham Junction are not happy.

Proposal: The restaurant on Lavender Hill could be turned into a bar

Developers want to turn the eye-catching Chinese restaurant in Lavender Hill into a trendy Grand Union bar.

But the site is on the corner of a residential area, Lavender Sweep and Eccles Road, in the heart of Nappy Valley.

A large number of people are worried about the impact it would have on them; late night taxi arrivals, sick in the streets, broken bottles and noise from the beer garden.

The bar’s proposed opening hours are from 10am to 11.30pm Sundays to Wednesdays, 10am to 1am on Thursdays and 10am to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Many have written to councillors and submitted comments to the planning consultation which closes on Friday, April 17.

One person online said: "There will be noise. There will be garbage. There will be people peeing on our front doors and leaving their rubbish. This will create a feeling of insecurity for our children."

Wandsworth Times:

Not impressed: The area is quiet and full of families with young children

Harriet Dyball, 34, has lived in Battersea for 25 years and said: "We are really worried. The garden and most of the site is actually on Lavender Sweep - the impact it will have on the local residents. We are not against development. We are mostly young families on the street.

"We don’t think it’s appropriate to have a bar there. I think it will have an impact in terms of noise and people coming and going from the bar."

Wandsworth Times:

Shaftesbury councillor James Cousins said: "Local residents are justifiably horrified by the applications to turn 281 Lavender Hill into a late night drinking venue.

"Despite its proximity to the town centre and Lavender Hill address the design of the premises puts them right into the heart of a set of residential streets which are simply not suitable for Grand Union’s plans.

Wandsworth Times:

Garden party: The planning proposal includes a beer garden

"Like the residents I, and colleagues, will be robustly opposing these applications."
