London's number one tourist attraction received a 'tattoo' for its 15th birthday today - designed by ‘artist in residence’ Jamie Cullen.
The London-born illustrator spent a day in a capsule of the London Eye to capture his personal take on the capital from above. His work will also appear as limited edition merchandise available to purchase later this year.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London said of the 15th anniversary: "The ‘iconic’ tag tends to be bandied around a little too readily these days, but in the case of the London Eye I say bandy away! Originally conceived as a temporary addition to London’s Millennium skyline it’s still here, 15 years on, delighting Londoners and visitors alike. Here's to many more years of it being an iconic London landmark.”
Since first opening 15 years ago on March 9th 2000, the London Eye has become one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. As the UK’s number one paid for visitor attraction, each one of its 32 capsules offers unrivalled 360 degree views over London and is now one of the most identifiable features of the capital’s skyline.
