The ancient craft of knitting will be at the centre of a new exhibition about the old activity which has managed to wind its way into the hearts of generations of fans.

All-things-wool and crochet will be on display at the Winns Gallery, Lloyd Park for the show named ‘How long is a piece of string?’.

Shop owner and keen knitter Alessandra Rigillo is involved in the project.

She said: “Now that they have ceased to be necessities of life, knitting and crochet are like brushes for a painter, pen and paper for the author and clay for the sculptor.

“Each single piece of work has own unique story. Our exhibit will have many stories to tell.

The exhibition will look at traditional and contemporary tools, technical samples, decorative accessories and shocking artistic creations.

The Winns Gallery will host the exhibition between September 11 and 21.
