Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a politician in a cape.

But while Edmonton MP Andy Love may raise a few sniggers with his latest photo opportunity, the Labour politician is hoping to also raise awareness for a cancer charity.

Mr Love has signed up to be a ‘caped crusader’ for Anthony Nolan, a UK-based blood cancer charity and bone marrow register.

The MP will be helping to recruit 16 to 30-year-olds in Enfield who could donate their stem cells to potentially cure someone’s blood cancer through the charity's ‘capes versus cancer’ campaign.

A total of 1,300 people in Edmonton have already signed up to donate, but there is a current need for young men and people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

Mr Love said: “It’s good that so many people in Edmonton are already signed up to the Anthony Nolan donor register, but I know that there are so many more heroes out there in our community and I would urge them to consider joining the register too. Let’s all join the fight against cancer and win.”
