CONTENTIOUS plans for a Pizza takeaway to open in Marlow town centre look likely to be given the green light.

Planning officials have recommended the application for Domino's to move into West Street should be approved.

And councillors could rubber stamp the move if they agree with their decision at Wednesday night's public meeting.

The planning committee will rule on the proposal after former Wycombe District Council leader Cllr Alex Collingwood, a Marlow representive, called it in. Otherwise it could have been granted approval already under delegated powers.

The plans have faced heavy opposition, though Domino's said the shop will create 20 new jobs.

The Head of Environmental Services at Wycombe District Council had told officers to reject the plans due to noise disturbance.

Marlow Society Chairman Martin Blunkell was one of a number of opponents expressing concerns over parking, and said a fast food shop would detract from the shopping quality of one of Marlow's two main streets.

Neighbours such as Aidan McCarthy wrote to complain about the application.

Gabbitas Robbins, the solicitors, have also objected on behalf of the leaseholders and freeholders of the property next door, The Old House.

But Matthew Hardy Development Management Engineer at Bucks County Council made no objection, saying in similar cases attempts to fight a plan based on such parking concerns have failed.

Marlow Chamber of Trade and Marlow Town Council declared no objections as long as environmental obligations are met.

Domino's has told the MFP: "With regards to parking provision, there is on street parking outside the store however around 70 per cent of our product is delivered direct to people in their homes.

"We are confident that our new look store will be seen as a positive addition to the town. We are looking forward to bringing piping hot delicious pizza to the people of Marlow."
