Beacons netball club was formed in 2008 by coach Sam Holder and has been bringing the sport to an continually growing number of young people aged 6 to 18 ever since. The club is based on the value that no player deserves a place on a team based on ability alone if they don’t put in the effort, enthusiasm or support for their teammates. It’s a belief that has served the club well as now it is home to hundreds of players of all abilities hailing from all corners of south east London.

In fact a number of players have been at the club since its inception and even after attending university have returned to play in the senior squads. One player who has attended the club for over 8 years told me that at Beacons they had “made friends for life.” One of the coaches had equally high praise saying that “the level of netball is so high and the attitudes of the players are always great.”

The club caters to all abilities with an academy level, where less experienced players can get introduced to the sport and socialise, a competitive level, where teams play in a league every other Saturday at Bromley High School, and a performance level, for those playing at county and regional level looking for careers in netball.

Aspirations for the club are set higher every season with Sam focused on each team either winning their league or progressing to the next pool, a goal which looks like it will be met with the majority of teams within the top three of their current pool.

Overall, Beacons netball club has built a community of dedicated players who value teamwork and positivity above all else. Do not be surprised if in the next few years players on the both the women’s’ and men’s England teams are south east Londoners with Beacons roots!
