With public exams just around the corner; students are bound to have their heads buried in books for the next few months. However some students may instead have their heads buried in sand waiting for their reward of Summer. With the warm weather already arriving and the covid restrictions less than ever; what is not to look forward to.

The post-exam holiday packed with festivals, late nights and parties is the end of school life and start to adulthood for millions across the country. Most traditional of all is the Reading festival. Renowned for its significant headliners and end of summer camping, the event is a hub for around 100,000 a year. Having been called off in 2020 and then closely monitored in 2021; this year is hopeful the breakthrough for post-pandemic celebrations. Although weekend tickets are already sold out, you can purchase day-tickets or even buy them through resellers so if tempted do not fret.

This year headlining are global sensations Dave, Arctic Monkeys, and Rage Against the Machine. With an album released in 2018 and before that 2013, the Arctic Monkeys have built up a lot of hype surrounding their 2022 reading gig, their indie rock hauling in millions of listeners around the country every year. Dave however, has taken over the Rap scene in the UK, producing two number 1 albums out of “psychodrama” and “we are all alone in this together”. In response to the announcement, Dave said “It’s a massive honour, especially to be in the company of other legends that are headlining.”

On top of the music, the festival offers 7 campsites of 191 acres in total, available to all for a possible 5-night stay. Although problems of pollution and littering have been the product of such festivals, it is known that the spectacle of thousands of teens travelling from all over the nation to the largest town in England is worth watching and being a part of. So if you are on the fence and are not sure on whether to purchase a ticket, look at the lineup, see what you like, and if tempted put on your boots and ready yourself for muddy mayhem.
