LONDON BOROUGH OF MERTON EXPERIMENTAL TENNIS EVENT DAY ROAD CLOSURES

The Merton (Tennis Event Days) (Prescribed Route) Experimental Traffic Order 2021

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the London Borough of Merton, on 9 June 2021, made the above-named Order under sections 9 and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

The general effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from entering any road or length of road specified in column 2 of the Schedule to this notice, between the hours of 8.30am and 11.30pm during the Wimbledon Championships, with exemptions for the types of vehicles listed in column 3 of the Schedule to this notice.

NB 1:- The restrictions would only apply during such times and to such extent as would from time to time be indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016. NB 2:- The Wimbledon Championships 2021 will commence on 28 June 2021 and are expected to finish on 11 July 2021.

Alternative routes for diverted traffic will be indicated by advance warning and diversion signs but would likely use one or more of the following roads:- Church Road, High Street, Wimbledon, Parkside, Wimbledon Parkside, Inner Park Road, Augustus Road, Replingham Road, Merton Road, Arthur Road, St Mary's Road, Durnsford Road, Gap Road and Leopold Road.

The Order has provided that in pursuance of section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Council's Head of futureMerton or some person authorised in that behalf by him may, if it appears to him or that person essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic, in the interests of providing suitable and adequate on-street parking facilities, or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Order runs, modify or suspend the Order or any provision thereof.

A copy of the Order, which will come into operation on 28 June 2021 and may remain in force for up to 18 months, and of other documents giving more particulars of the Order, including a plan of the relevant area and of the Council's statement of reasons for making the Order can be inspected on-line at:

or during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at: Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, SM4 5DX, until the Order ceases to have effect.

Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.

The Council of the London Borough of Merton will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be reproduced and continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order made under section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Persons desiring to object to the making of the Order under section 6 of the said Act of 1984 for the purpose of such reproduction and continuation in force may, within a period of 6 months beginning with the day on which the experimental Order came into force, or if the experimental Order is varied by another Order or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the said Act of 1984, within a period of 6 months beginning with the date on which the variation or modification or the latest variation or modification came into force, visit
