Being single is as much a blessing as it is a curse. On the plus side, I can sleep on whichever side of the bed I choose. Or across both if I so desire.

The impossible dream
It was a good week for the history books when Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America last Tuesday. As the media relished the rare opportunity to go to town with mass coverage of a single issue, many Americans wept with joy as they watched a small seed of hope become reality.

Don't shoot the messenger
A grown man lays collapsed amid the dirt and debris of a city being showered in bombs. His eyes, widened and frozen with fear, could belong to a man taking his last breath. Equally, they could belong to a man already dead.

Shopping heaven, retail hell
While the rest of you enjoy the delights of Christmas in Barnet, I’ll be basking in winter sun on the other side of the pond. By which I mean, a tropical Caribbean paradise. But despite the obvious perks, there really is one thing I’m particularly looking forward to — by-passing the retail madness that walks hand-in-hand with the festive season.
