Sound Advice: Broadoak Bluegrass
The Broadoak Bluegrass Band is doing a fund-raising gig for Cancer Research UK at Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (August 16).
It's the group's second visit to the club, in Station Road, where they previously swept the crowd off its collective feet back in November 2011.
Support comes from country/blues Yorkshire-based songwriter Mark Wynn.
Entry is £4 and doors open at 8pm.
Alternatively, there's a night of metal down at the Square in Harlow on Thursday (August 16).
The show is headlined by Essex four-piece The Slytones.
Support comes from Porcupine Kiss, DEFEAT and solo acoustic act Rob Aitken (probably not massively metal).
Tickets cost £4 on the door, or free for members. Doors open at 8pm and under 16s are only allowed in if accompanied by an adult aged 21 or over.
The Luna Lounge in Church Lane, Leytonstone, hosts its weekly Little Bread Big Jam jazz night next Wednesday (August 22).
Doors open at 8pm and it's free to attend.
Waltham Abbey Folk Club is hosting a singaround jam night on Monday (August 20).
It costs £1.50p to take part and is at the Royal British Legion building in Brooker Road.
Slim pickings elsewhere as established promoters such as Walthamstow Folk Club, What's Cookin' in Leytonstone, The East Side Jazz Club, et al, are taking a break for the summer.
