Sound Advice: Still time to enjoy Leytonstone Festival goodness

THERE'S plenty of Leytonstone Festival gigs to enjoy in the next few days before it wraps up on Sunday.

If classic jazz is your thing, check out the George Simmonds Septet at the Heathcote pub on Thursday (July 19) from 8pm.

It costs £5, or £3 for concessions.

Then on Friday (July 20) promoters Lost Horizons present an evening of folk and acoustic music as part of the festival at the Birkbeck Tavern.

The singer-songwriters who'll be playing include Ewan McLennan, James O'Hara-Knight and Louis Gilman.

Doors open at 7pm and it's free – with a collection.

Meanwhile legendary jazz man Will Gaines plays the Leytonstone Social Club the same night, with support from Jacqueline Pert and Bret Jones.

Tickets are £3 and it begins around 8pm.

Jazz band The Hot House Quintet gig in the beer garden of the North Star pub on Saturday (July 21) between 1pm and 4pm.

Then on Sunday (July 22) promoters What's Cookin' have their fifth annual summer picnic, with a great gaggle of acts including Danny and The Champions of The World, The Rockingbirds, The Ramshackle Union Band, Benjamin Folke Thomas and a whole lot more.

It's in the Henry Reynolds Gardens between 1pm and 8pm.

Delta gospel group Tone Brokers play Walthamstow Cricket Club on Friday (July 20).

The gig is organised by the 17Blues Club and is free to attend, although donations welcome.

Doors are at 8pm ish.

Steve Rushton hosts a blues jam night at the same venue, which is in Greenway Avenue, on Monday (July 23).

The East London Brass band is holding a fund-raising concert on Thursday (July 19).

It takes place at the Trinity United Reform Church in Orford Road, Walthamstow, at 8pm.

Entry is free but donations for their trip to compete in an international competition in Belgium are welcome.

Up in Essex, acapella group Triangle headline a gala evening at Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (July 19).

Support comes from solo singers Mike Dyson, Al Neville and Alan Francis.

Entry is £2 and it's at the Loughton Club building in Station Road, with the show starting around 8pm.
