Sound Advice: Through music the passions enjoy themselves

All-round talented guy Brian Peters performs at Walthamstow Folk Club on Sunday (November 20).

Described as a top squeezebox player and skilled guitarist, Brian has a varied repertoire of both traditional and contemporary songs in his marvellous musical brain.

Admission is £6, or £5 for concessions. The club is based at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub in Hoe Street, and doors open at 7.30pm.

Synex play the Standard Music Venue on Thursday (November 17). Entry is £5 with a band flyer and doors open around 8pm.

Tribute act Guns 2 Roses play the club, in Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow, on Friday (November 18). It costs £9 and doors are at eight ish.

Classic rock band Airforce headline the Standard on Saturday (November 19) as part of a special fund-raiser for its departing lease-holders Amanda and Paul White. They've run the venue over the past couple of decades but are being forced out following its sale by owner Punch Taverns.

Support comes from Slam and Deep Machine.

Doors are at around 8pm, price TBC.

Edinburgh-based bluegrass and folk group Southern Tenant Folk Union play the Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, Leytonstone, on Thursday (November 17).

Support comes from the harmony-heavy Little Smoke String Band.

It starts at 8.30pm and is free, although donations welcome.

Then on Saturday (November 19) the pub hosts Robb Johnson and the Irregulars, as part of a night organised by promoters What's Cookin'. Support comes from a good gaggle of established local acts including Steve White and the Protest Family and folk master Russ Chandler.

The on Sunday (November 20) New Orleans swing and jazz act Mike Barry's Frisco Six play the pub from 6pm in the main bar. It's also free.

Good time bluegrass band Wet Paint headline Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (November 17.

Support comes from trio Spotiskerry, who play traditional dances tunes backed up with lovely harmony singing.

Entry is £2 and it's at the Loughton Club in Station Road. Doors are at 8pm.

Award-winning saxophonist Julian Siegel plays the East Side Jazz Club in Leytonstone on Tuesday night (November 22).

It's at the Lord Rookwood pub and doors open at 8.30pm. Entry is usually around £5.
