During the first week of the Easter holidays a groups of cadets and staff from Surbiton ATC squadron went to Capel Curig in north Wales to undertake a week of adventure training.

The week began on Saturday the 31st of March with a coach journey from London to wales which took just short of six hours but the enthusiasm for the camp kept the mood up for the duration of it. The first day of activity was filled with climbing a local mountain called ‘Moel siabod’ which rises to eight hundred and seventy metres above sea level; the climb included a long scramble and some arduous bog crossings but the view was well worth the effort. The second day was filled with a visit to a local climbing wall called ‘Indie’ which is near Caernarfon, some cadets were top roping and other cadets and staff members took on the challenge of lead climbing.

The next day, the cadets ascended another mountain called ‘Moel Mawr’ which is home to a disused quarry and a deserted mining town. The day concluded with a visited to the ‘Lake side cafe’ in Blaenau Ffestiniog which some cadets said “ it is the best café they have ever been to.” Day four was spent hand railing the Ffestiniog railway and enjoying the glorious landscapes that surround it. Finally, the last two days held the most exciting event yet… a wild camp. Two days of just eight people and the mountains, one cadet who took part said “I would give anything to repeat the experience.”
