Hounslow’s 'Kind of Magic’ rocked London’s New Year’s Day Parade, with the Freddy Mercury-inspired theme winning third place for the local entry.

A rhapsody of music and theatre, bringing together a bohemian collaboration of residents from across Hounslow, wowed the thousands of people who lined the streets of London on 1 January to watch the 2018 New Year’s Day Parade.

The London Borough of Hounslow’s entry, which took third place in the annual Parade competition, was led by the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Sue Sampson, and inspired by one of the borough’s most famous residents, Freddie Mercury, from the world-famous rock band, Queen.

Three local dance groups and musical entertainers performed to several Queen hits, including It's a Kind of Magic, We Will Rock You and Don't Stop Me Now in front of the float – a bright pink double-decker bus.

The act was put together by Feltham Arts, with the support of the Tamil Foundation, O'Connor Irish Dancers, Outside The Box Dance Company, Ray Coleman from Springwest Academy and Asian British Music.

Missing out on second place by just one point, the third-place win still means that the Mayor’s two charities for the year, Refuge and the Pink Ribbon Foundation will each receive £4,000.
