D of E practice expedition
September
Most people signed up for D of E to spend a night in the outdoors or to bond with their friends...by the end of 6 long tiring hours that all seems to matter less.
D of E is a scary experience and this is how to protect yourself from it:
1. Write a good route card: Rebecca literally wrote down things like "turn left at the next tree " which isn't that helpful when your lost in the middle of a forest. Always write down land marks.
2. Bring enough food: I got through a box of cereal bars and half a packet of nuts on the first day. Walking makes you really hungry.
3. Stay warm: I woke up at 3 am and crawled next to Izzy in a bin bag. D of E nights are freezing!
4. Beware of Badgers
5. Check your surroundings: If you don't constantly check for paths and turn offs then the map won't make any sense. Keep checking where you are because everywhere looks like north.
