It’s around that time of year again. The time when we question our ability to maintain New Year’s resolutions. A study in America has shown that 42.2% of people fail in achieving their resolutions.

New Year’s resolutions originate from Babylonians, who would make promises to their gods at the beginning of every year, such as to return borrowed objects and pay their debts.

Many people make promises to lose weight, exercise more or learn a new skill or hobby. However, the success rate of keeping these resolutions is very low.

Here are some tips on keeping your New Year’s resolutions:

Firstly, motivation is key. A New Year’s resolution requires determination and commitment for it to last.

The main way to stick to your resolutions is to only make one.  By focusing on just one target, you will be able to greatly increase your chances of success.

Also it is better to plan out your promise for the year instead of spontaneously coming up with one at a party.

Set milestones along the year to complete by a certain date. If you want to lose weight, set a date that you should have lost a certain amount of kilograms by.

Share your goals with people close to you to gain more motivation and to try and avoid failure.

A small note on your progress every few days or even weeks to see how you are maintaining your resolutions could also lead to more success.

Last of all, TREAT YOURSELF! On the road to success, do not forget to reward yourself to keep up the motivation.
