We will be looking at a student’s opinion upon having a German exchange, for a week. From 16th March to 23rd March, year 10 pupils from Newstead Wood School were given the opportunity to host a German student; and we will be interviewing, Sukhi Suresh, to see a student’s perspective on this experience.

Do you think this was a good educational experience?

“Hosting a German student was educationally beneficial to the student”. They had the opportunity to practice English to native speakers, which is a very specific opportunity. It would also help the host student to interact in German as well, to a certain extent. In addition, when the English students go to Germany they will also have the chance to practice German, so benefits both students.

Were there any other positives of this exchange experience?

“I think that this experience also allowed you to make friends and taught you about culture and daily life of students in Germany”. It can be a really good experience, as you can stay in contact with your exchanges, keep practicing the language and have a better understanding of the world around you.

Do you think there were any negatives, to hosting a German exchange?

“Personally, I didn’t have any problems with my exchange. However, it can take a lot of time and effort to give her the best experience of her visit to London”. Having an exchange can be really fun and problem free, but occasionally, there can be disagreements between the two students, which doesn’t make the experience the best. But on the whole, it is more often than not, great fun!

Would you host another student if you were given the chance?

“I would definitely host a student again!” Opportunities like these are likely to come around once in a lifetime, and it is only for a week, so should be ceased.
