One of the things that the British love to do is complain about the weather. It’s too hot, it’s too cold, it’s too wet, but the weather we complain about the most is the snow. Whether it’s students complaining that we don’t have enough snow to get the day off school, or adults complaining that as soon as a single snowflake falls, all public transport is delayed or cancelled. Recently though, snow has affected places across the country, including here in London, closing schools, cancelling trains, and causing disruption on the roads. This has all been caused by Storm Emma or as she is also known: the ‘Beast from the East’.

This has certainly not been the worst snow we’ve seen, but certainly has been the first major snow London’s had in years, which may be why we are struggling to cope with it. There have been many problems, such as crashes on motorways, and only today a man has died after being pulled out of a frozen lake in Danson Park. And though there may have been serious incidents, we can also take the time to enjoy the snow. You could take a well-deserved break if you’re unable to travel to work or school, and even if you can travel, try to have fun during your breaks.

So, we should enjoy the snow whilst it lasts, but make sure to stay safe, by wrapping up warmly, wearing sensible footwear, sticking to paths, and just being careful.
