Throughout the last three days below-zero temperatures and extreme weather conditions have swept over the UK resulting in transport delays, injuries and illness. Schools around the UK have been shutting due to health and safety precautions and the Met Office have just issued a red weather warning for some parts of the UK. The weather conditions in places such as central Scotland and Ireland  have been said to be the most extreme with major roads being closed and up to 40cm of snow.

Motorists across the UK have been advised to avoid driving in this weather if at all possible as road conditions are icy and there is poor visibility. However many are still driving due to the cancellations and delays of trains and buses over the last couple of days. Students struggle to get to and from school on time as buses are slowed down because of the snow and paths are not being gritted enough. Workers are also arriving to work late as a result of the poor road conditions.

Shops have seen panic buying of staple foods such as bread, milk and eggs in case people are unable to visit the shops at a later time or shops are unable to restock. There have been accounts of pushing and shoving as people jostled for the last loaf. As the Siberian weather front progresses another problem arises in the worst hit places. Power cuts are expected throughout Scotland and Ireland. These power cuts are due to create even more of a disruption as the temperatures may reach as low as -11C in the night and they could affect whole towns.
