Cirque du Soleil is a worldwide known circus and is the largest theatrical producer in the world. It was founded on 7th July 1984. It is not an ordinary circus nor is it a traditional one. There are currently 21 different shows worldwide all with a different storyline.

On the 25th February, my family and I went to see Cirque du Soleil Ovo at the Royal Albert Hall. Ovo is inspired by the world of insects, the show was created not to be about the acts, dancing or insects but the movement. I personally am not a big fan of the traditional circus but really enjoyed Cirque du Soleil, as it was different, original and something that I had never seen before. Ovo means “egg” in Portuguese, throughout the show the egg represented the way in which insects form and will protect their egg.

The different insects were all presented in different ways. The list of insects is the fly, ladybug, dragonfly, spiders, fleas, ants, butterflies, firefly, mosquito, scarabs, mosquitoes, crickets and cockroaches. The acts the insects performed represented their movement, for example, the spiders performed a contortionist act, the firefly used a Diablo tossing numerous diablos at a time. My personal favourite was the crickets, they performed on a track and trampoline, flipping multiple times in the air as if they were flying and tumbling at an incredible speed, leaping off and across the walls.

If you are not a big fan of clowns, then this is the circus for you.

It is one of the most phenomenal shows you will ever see.
