Snow forms when tiny ice crystals in clouds stick together to become snowflakes. If enough crystals stick together, they'll become heavy enough to fall to the ground - Met Office. Although snow in all it's beauty and glory has been long awaited and missed in the season of Winter, its recent arrival has created problems of all sorts throughout the UK.

Although it has now been two months since Christmas and we are edging towards the start of Spring, extreme weather conditions in the form of snow have been presented and its severity has taken everyone by surprise. Amber Met Office weather warnings have been released for Wednesday the 28th of February- 1st of March, as a result of the heavy snowfall. Multiple flights and over 70 Southeastern train journeys were cancelled today, as well as this there was a massive increase in the number of car collisions on roads resulting in a few major roads being closed off. The snow was extremely bad in some areas which disallowed affected students to attend school as their school buses found that it was too unsafe to make the journey. Although this rapid change in weather has caused great disruption in our daily routines, thousands of students were overjoyed at the news that their schools would be closing early and that they would be able to warm themselves up with some hot chocolate at home. People have also been enjoying sledding, creating snowmen, and just the snow in general as this is not a regular occurrence in the UK.

The cause of this weather is said to be the Easterly winds blowing snow showers towards us and a low-pressure system moving up from the Iberia Peninsula this brings rain/moisture which due to the low temperatures will result in more snow/frost.

Remain cautious when you are walking so you don't slip on ice or even when you are having an intense snowball fight because ice/stones could get trapped in the snowballs. Also, remember to grab your scarf and gloves before you rush out of your door in the morning, these simple items of clothing determine whether you are freezing throughout the day or not.
