Legally Blonde at the Churchill Theatre

Recently the hit Broadway musical ‘Legally Blonde’ was on at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley. I was lucky enough to see the show in late September before the musical toured on to several destinations throughout the country. The show follows Elle Woods (played by Eurovision’s Lucie Jones), a fashion conscious, perky sorority girl with dreams of pursuing her ex-boyfriend to Harvard University. The storyline remained true to its roots in the form of Reese Witherspoon’s blockbuster version from 2001, however it’s clever stage adaptations provided a witty, energetic and an appropriately pink performance. The clever story of Elle’s rise as a successful part of a murder case during her studies at Harvard is entwined with a romance with classmate Emmett. This is complemented by clever routines, for example a complex skipping rope display as well as the iconic bend and snap, all mixed in with lots of comedy moments.

This recipe made for a happy, enthusiastic audience, who came out the theatre still laughing at their favourite moments and singing to the catchy tunes. The Churchill Theatre, which it was performed in, is a famous part of the Bromley community, hosting not only shows in its large auditorium with a capacity of 781, but also houses classes in its studios. The theatre, opened in 1977 by HRH The Prince of Wales, has a yearly pantomime, guaranteed to bring smiles to those young and old. I really recommend visiting The Churchill Theatre to not only support their productions, but also to enjoy an evening of entertainment in the heart of Bromley.
