A Medical Careers Day hosted by the Royal Society of Medicine at 1 Wimpole Street, London.

This 13th February, the RSM School’s Programme arranged an inspiring, educational careers day in the Guy Whittle Auditorium.

Throughout the day, participants were exposed to the process of gaining a place in a medical school and guided through the journey to a career in the medical field.

Informative lectures that appealed to, and sparked the interests of both sixth formers and aspiring medics alike ran throughout the day. Successful experts, coming with various medical experiences and backgrounds, arrived at the Auditorium to spare their advice in order inform students of the assets and draw-backs on the life  as a doctor, including Miss Claire Brash, whom has been awarded with several, admirable scholarships such as the National Scholarship to represent the UK at the American Model Final, along with other titles. She gave an engaging speech on the realities of being a medical student using her own experiences and excellent photography to portray the many years-worth of studying.

Following the introductory speech made by Mr B Sethia- President of the RSM- were lectures by other respectable professionals such as Dr Rashmi Patel, Dr Andrew Nicoll and Dr Christopher Nordstorm, just to mention a few of the incredible specialists present at that night.

The whole event was smoothly conducted, the mainly being attended by students from throughout London, even covering a Q&A session at the end for eager students. Lectures offered a range of advice, ranging from guidance on passing UKCAT and MBAT exams and writing personal statements to several in-depth experiences of life in the medical field.

The event received positive, anonymous reviews, claiming “a worth-while event” and “… left me with the inspiration to research further into the career of medicine” to even “really expanded my knowledge and broke a few stereotypes about doctors in general”.
