Chinese new year also know as the spring festival was on Saturday the 28th of January it is celebrated for 15 days yet several children from different schools have said it was not celebrated for any amount of days. Chinese citizens take up nearly 25% of the world’s population and contribute a lot to our history with different inventions. Some students believe that schools are not doing enough to embrace the celebration of the spring festival. A student from Sevenoaks says "I feel like Chinese culture isn’t represented enough." Other students were asked if they would want to celebrate Chinese new year at school, a girl from Highbury-grove says "Yes it would be good to engage and learn about other traditions," another student from Babington says “yes to teach people other cultures." On the other hand, one student says "to be honest I do not really believe in it.” In lessons students learn about British values but what are British values to students? A student from Bromley High School says "British values are mostly based on English culture, which is wrong as Britain is a diverse island with many cultures.'

Do schools do enough to teach children from a young age about the Chinese new year at Sevenoaks Chinese new year was celebrated by serving noodles in the canteen and at Bishop Justus, they talked about it according to the two students.  Schools should encourage to celebrate major events in different cultures more often as this is one example of how children can easily believe the idea that British values are only English values.
