10 years ago, we saw the release of the first iPhone, now in 2017 we are looking at the release of the iPhone 8. It seems like such a long time ago but its has only been 10 years and phones in general have improved so much.

The iPhone had a 2MP camera, the iPhone 7 now has a 12MP camera (6 times better) and the iPhone 8 could potentially have a dual camera. The latest iPhones also now have 3D touch where the amount of pressure you put onto the screen can give you a variety of options. Passwords are no longer needed to unlock your phone as an increasing amount of phones have fingerprint passwords where you just have to press a button and your phone is unlocked.

Very soon passwords could be wiped out all together. As technology becomes even more advanced, your fingerprint could replace all of your passwords. It is already starting to happen, now Apple pay allows you to pay for items using your credit or debit card. However, rather then entering your pin you simply place your finger on the home button. Your fingerprint is a much more secure way to unlock your card than using a pin, as criminals can track your hand movements to guess your pin then steal your card and potentially take away lots of money.

Communication has also come a long way. Before telephones were invented, if you wanted to talk to someone it was either in person or through a letter. If this person lived on the other side of the world the letter would take weeks or even months to get to them and then some more weeks for you to receive a reply. Now you can connect with family and friends all around the world in a matter of seconds through video calling apps like Skype.

Just when you thought ways of communicating couldn’t be even more easier the emoji was invented. The first set of emojis were designed in 1999. Now there are over 1,800 different types of emoji. You can now express your feelings or emotions in a more fun and quirky way than through words. As we get more and more emojis, it could turn into a new language. Sumayyah, a secondary school student, said "the range of facial expressions expressed in emojis helps young people have more empathy."

Technology has hugely improved in such a short time and it looks like it will carry on getting better, more advanced and easier to use. So what does the future have in store for us? In 10 years time will we see an iPhone 20? Will we still have mobiles or will there be a new way to communicate? We can only wait and see.
