Over the past few weeks, GCSE mock exams have been the topic of conversation for all students currently in year 11.

As we each opened the dreaded envelope with anxious fingers, we prepared ourselves for the long-awaited results. It all came down to a few simple letters and numbers which were a massive reflection of all of the time, hard work and effort we had put in. The moment of truth had finally arrived.

Some students ripped straight into their letter, desperate to see the grades they got in the mocks, whilst others, like me, took their time; didn’t want to rush into the horrors that lay before them!

Whilst a lot of students were extremely proud of their results, many were extremely disappointed and were left feeling devastated. As I sat back and watched the mixed emotions fly around my school, it was clear that many students immediately carried a similar thought – “I could’ve done better”.  The months ahead of us mark one of the most challenging moments we might ever face in our education and with our GCSE’s fast-approaching many students feel that there is not enough time to improve on the grades they aren’t happy with. However, with a few still months to go, it is never too late to turn things around.

It is an achievement in itself to recognise your faults but it is a failure if you don’t do something about it. Instead of dwelling on the past with “I could’ve done this better”, look positively to the future with “I will do this better”. We must persevere and try and try again until we get the grades that we deserve.
