“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, Whispering ‘it will be happier’” – Alfred Lord Tennyson

Now, at the end of the first month of 2017, it is clear this year will be nothing if not eventful. And as we step into February and all that comes with it, here are a few of my favourite quotes that I’ve come across in years past:

“Isn’t it funny that day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different…” – C.S Lewis

Indeed, this applies to our everyday life. Day to day it is hard to notice the differences but looking back at 2016 we can see all that has changed from the year before that.

“I have spread my dreams under your feet… Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.” – W.B Yeats

“Years of love have been forgot, In the hatred of a moment.” – Edgar Allan Poe

In moments of deep loathing towards a friend or even a parent, it is easy to forget all the good memories, but in the end we will most likely remember the good memories.

“I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night” – Sarah Williams

"Look like th' innocent flower, but be the serpent under 't." —Lady Macbeth, Macbeth Act 1, scene 5, Shakespeare

Actually the best gift you could have given her was a life-time of adventures.”- Lewis Carroll

This is the last of my favourite quotes and ties in quite nicely to what I hope 2017 will be; a series of adventures.

Now that 2017 is officially underway, we have much to look forward to. Local charity stores on Orpington High Street, like Oxfam, are getting ready for Red Nose Day on Friday 24th March. As well as this, an Ephemera and Collectibles fair for antique books is being held in Crofton Halls.

Here’s to hoping 2017 will be a year to remember!
