Saturday saw another bad day at the office for Walter Mazzarri's Watford as they were beaten by three goals to one by Tony Pulis's West Bromwich Albion.

Prior to the game, Mazzari had said that his side 'still don't have that mentality' required for a top finishing Premier League side and this was echoed by the finishing score line.

However, it was Watford who got the first opportunity of the game, almost out of nothing. A wild throw from goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes picked out Nodin Amrabat on the half way line who beat three West Brom players before taking on a shot from outside of the area. The ball had a lot of spin on it, and this was matched by Ben Foster in net who punched the ball with his fists into the stands behind the goal.

Amrabat's effort was one of five on target for Watford at The Hawthorns, but soon the home side were to take an advantage on the opposition when they were awarded a corner in the 15th minute of the game. A left footed ball was curled in by the influential Chris Brunt and this was met by former Manchester United central defender Jonny Evans. Evans who had made a darting run from outside of the 6 yard box was unmarked and able to head home the opener.

A clever set piece that had clearly been worked on the training ground by West Brom paid off in the 34th minute of the game when Chris Brunt's low, left footed strike from 25 yards took a deflection off of Watford's Juan Zuniga to keep the ball out of Herulio Gomes's reach, putting the baggies two goals up.

Amrabat has been Watford's bright spark in their previous fixtures and this continued at the weekend. The Moroccan made several surging runs down the right hand flank, one of which resulted in a left footed cross which was almost deflected into the net by the defender McAuley but kept out by goalkeeper Foster.

This is when hope was restored in the game for Watford. The resulting corner saw skipper Troy Deeney's low effort meet Christian Kabasele who side footed the ball in from close range, getting the Hornets back into the game with 30 minutes to play.

The comeback seemed to be on for Watford, but their chances were reduced when record signing Roberto Pereyra was dismissed in the 84th minute, for an angry reaction to a James McClean challenge which resulted in both sides clashing on the touch line.

West Brom then sealed the victory in the first minute of added time when Matt Phillips curled in the fourth and final goal of the game.

Watford manager Walter Mazzari said he was "happy with how my team played" and that it was "the best they have played since I have been here". The defeat was Watford's second in a row and leaves them in tenth position in the Premier League.

As for the Baggies, Tony Pulis credited his sides "Spirit" after their victory, which moves them up to sixth in the table.

The Hornets are back home at Vicarage Road next Saturday and will hope to bounce back from this weekends sting against a hopeful top finishing side in Everton.
