The Chalfont St. Giles firework display was on Saturday the 5th of November. The bonfire was at 6:15 and the firework display started at 7pm. The night was very crowed as there were hundreds who had come to see the renowned firework display. The display was reasonably priced, on the gate it was £6 for children and £9 for adults, you could also buy tickets in advance which were cheaper.

Before the fireworks had started there were food and drink stalls for inviting hot and cold refreshments. Also you could buy light up toys which were very popular and looked spectacular in the dark. The display was really dramatic with spotlights and music to compliment the amazing colourful explosions. There was a huge variety of different fireworks which were mind blowing and beautiful, the show lasted for around 25 minutes.

The event originally started in 1970 and all proceedings go to the scouts and guides who organise the event. They hope that their magnificent display prevent people from trying fireworks at home which can be very dangerous. They also found that by opening the event to the public they raised enough funds to replace the old guide hut which was built in 1950. Thanks to the flair and enthusiasm of the public the popularity of the event grew rapidly from its modest beginnings. Once the new Guide Centre was completed in 1976, the Scouts were invited to share in the effort and the profit of the events, an arrangement which continues to this day.

For many years, the displays were staged by local enthusiasts.  More recently, the fireworks have been provided and fired by qualified specialist companies. The displays are now fired electronically and are accompanied by a specially created soundtrack and special effects to make sure they are safe for the public.

There is still plenty to be done by the Scout and Guide supporters and other helpers in planning and publicising the event, managing the catering and sale of tickets and novelties. Including all the equipment that is provided for the event.

The display is a lot of hard work for the organisers but is an enjoyable and rewarding night for the scouts the guides and community of Chalfont St. Giles as well as many more.
